BERWICK, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — High school students in Berwick enjoyed a fun-filled day thanks to their efforts to raise money for families of kids with cancer.
Berwick High School and the Youth Action Board from the "For the Cause Teen Center" in Berwick are teaming up to support the ThinkBig Pediatric Cancer Fund.
What's better than having your classes cancelled, spending time with some sweet therapy dogs and a game of cornhole? Raising thousands of dollars for the ThinkBig Pediatric Cancer Fund, a local organization that supports families of pediatric cancer patients in northeast and central Pennsylvania.
"We are rewarding our high school students because they raised $4,200 for the ThinkBig Pediatric Cancer Fund," explained Ava Peters, president of the Youth Action Board.
Peters is a senior at Berwick High School. She's also the president of the For the Cause Teen Center's Youth Action Board.

She and her fellow board members organized the fundraiser and the fun events for their peers.
"I think everyone's having a great time, even though it was really early in the morning, it started, everyone was still energetic and having fun," said Cole Philips, treasurer of the Youth Action Board.
Student organizers and school administration say they are proud to contribute to an organization that helps people in their own backyards.
"It's just, it's so great because it makes me feel like I am doing something to contribute to my community, and it just gives me a good feeling," explained Philips.
"I think it's really important because I think our community has been affected a lot by cancer, and especially when you have a family with young children, the parents want to be able to do as much as they can and sometimes, they're limited by financial restraints," said Cheyenne Hinkle, principal of Berwick High School.
A fun-filled, yet meaningful day. Students and staff say they hope to continue for years to come.
This is one of several fundraisers the Youth Action Board has hosted to raise money for ThinkBig. They hope to raise a total of 20,000 dollars by the end of May.
