Wilkes-Barre Cherry Blossom Festival kicks off

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The weather to start the weekend may not be what organizers of a popular festival have in mind. It rained intermittently on Saturday for the official start of the Wilkes-Barre Cherry Blossom Festival.

The event at Kirby Park includes more than 40 food and craft vendors, as well as rides, and live entertainment.

This marks the 48th year for the celebration in the Diamond City.

"I mean, every year we try to have as many vendors as we can. We love to have different food. It's really a great way for people to celebrate spring, yeah, in northeastern Pennsylvania. It's become a tradition," City of Wilkes-Barre Special Events Coordinator Mike Slusser stated.

The Wilkes-Barre Cherry Blossom Festival wraps up for the day at 7:00 p.m.

If you missed it, you can catch the final day on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Kirby Park.
