Cherry Blossom Five Mile Run stepped off in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The weather dried out just in time for a Sunday morning run in the park. The sound of an air horn sent dozens of runners and walkers on their way through Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre.

They took part in the Wyoming Valley Striders' 50th Annual Cherry Blossom Five Mile Run.

The course took participants from Kirby Park to the Luzerne County levee trail and back.

The Wyoming Valley Striders are celebrating a half-century, and 200 runners signed up to be part of this milestone run.

"Well, it's nice to see there's a lot more participation, and you know, just it was a good feeling because everybody is celebrating the 50th, and it's just a good day to be out for it," Mayfield Runner Dan Dragwa said.

"Oh, I love the course. It's really windy. That's my only complaint, but it's not their fault," Stephanie Curto, a runner from Moscow, told 28/22 News.

Sunday's race is the second of three races the Wyoming Valley Strides host as part of a triple crown.

The next one is a 20K run in November.
