(WBRE/WYOU) — Two animal sanctuaries across state lines have teamed up to take care of an injured goat found in NEPA.
A one-year-old pregnant goat named ‘Peach’ looks to be living the good life, but she found herself at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary in High Falls, New York, after she was hit by a car in NEPA.

“A car came, flying by, and actually sped up and swerved to hit her. Knocked her over and drove away,” explained Indra Lahiri, founder of Indraloka Animal Sanctuary.

The crash happened in Nicholson, Wyoming County, where an eyewitness brought an injured Peach to Indraloka Animal Sanctuary in Dalton.
Its emergency vet clinic found rib and spinal damage, a dislocated hip, and when she was transferred to Woodstock Farm, that specializes in taking care of goats with disabilities, they discovered a far-along pregnancy with a healthy baby.
“When we took in Peach, we really took on a heavy medical burden, not just her initial care, any delivery complications, the care of her baby, but also she needs surgery,” said Rachel McCrystal, executive director at Woodstock Farm Sanctuary.

Being on baby watch, they have a vet on standby for her delivery, and a surgery planned for afterward to fix her hip. Both could cost more than $4,000.
“So she’s in basically a medical stall so that she can be supervised all day, and she’s getting a lot of special care. She’s also on a lot of pain meds to make sure that she’s as comfortable as she can be during this,” explained McCrystal.
Both sanctuaries rely solely off of donations, so cases like Peach’s can burn through funds fast.
That’s why Indraloka founder Indra Lahiri says they’re asking for the community’s help. To keep their doors open for emergency cases.
“Both of our sanctuaries could really use financial support to help us rebuild our emergency rescue funds because that’s what we need when we get the next emergency call, and right now we’re all out,” said Lahiri.
Peach the goat is expected to deliver her baby any day now, and after her hip surgery, will live out life with her baby at the New York farm.
