SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Local college students are giving children with disabilities a new set of wheels and new independence in Lackawanna County. Sunday was the second annual Go Baby Go community day at the University of Scranton's Byron Center.
Students unveiled custom-made cars designed specifically for nine local children with mobility challenges.
Each vehicle is uniquely adapted to help kids move freely and safely.

"Her grandmother has a big open field between the two houses, and a nice basketball court she'll race around in, and across the street from their house they have a parking lot that's empty and night so she'll get a lot of use out of it there," Mia's Father and vehicle recipient Gerard Pugh.
"One thing they all had in common was creating a button instead of a push pedal to accelerate the car, that was in almost every one of the cars, and some of the more unique ones we did we're a joystick to control the car, that was a cool one," Mechanical Engineering Senior Student Taylor Roueche stated.
The Go Baby Go event was funded by the Edward R. Leahy endowment, making the adaptive cars free to families.
Students will resume the project in the fall to help even more families.
