PHOTOS: 3 injured after 4-vehicle crash in Columbia County

MIFFLIN TOWNSHIP, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) say three people were sent to nearby hospitals after a four-vehicle crash in Columbia County.

Officials say that crews were called to mile marker 245 of Interstate 80 Westbound in Mifflin Township for a reported four-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer.

In a release, troopers explained that the tractor-trailer was driving West on Interstate 80 in the right lane while a Toyota RAV4, a Mini Clubman, and a Subaru were stopped ahead of the tractor-trailer due to traffic congestion.

The tractor-trailer was unable to slow down and hit the Toyota from behind, which caused the Toyota to side-swipe the Mini and strike the Subaru from behind, according to state police.

The impact between the Toyota and the Subaru pushed the Subaru off the right shoulder of Interstate 80 and flipped it onto its back, troopers explained.

According to PSP, the tractor-trailer continued for a short distance before stopping against the guide rail on the right shoulder.

State police say all vehicles in the crash sustained disabling damage and were taken from the scene by Don's Towing.

The drivers of the Toyota, Mini, and Subaru were all injured and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment, according to PSP. Their condition is unknown at this time.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) had a lane restriction in place as crews responded to the incident. The lane restriction has since been lifted.

PSP Bloomsburg is handling the investigation into the crash, officials say.
