Veterans getting helping hand thanks to outreach effort

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Veterans of today are getting a helping hand thanks to an outreach effort. Valor Clinic Foundation hosted an event on Sunday called Wilkes-Barre Stand Down behind the McDonald's at Market Street and Wilkes-Barre Boulevard.

Organizers say the goal was to provide food, resources, and services for veterans in need, at-risk individuals, and families.

"It's amazing. What they do is amazing, and I hope more people donate products to them so that they can keep this up because this is an important program," program recipient Kim Branis said.

"I think that helping our veterans is extremely important, especially in this area. We have a lot of veterans, and we have a lot of veterans who are at risk or experiencing homelessness, so it's really nice that there's an organization that's out here helping," Valor Clinic Foundation Volunteer Nina Ancharski stated.

Organizers say the "Stand down" is part of their mission to restore dignity and provide life-saving resources to veterans and others in crisis.
