River search in Lycoming County for missing girl suspended

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, LYCOMING COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The search for a missing girl who was swept away in the Susquehanna River has been suspended until further notice.

The South Williamsport Fire Department says the river conditions and depth are too dangerous at this time.

On Sunday, 10-year-old Claué Schreffler-Algofera was playing in the river when she was swept away by the current in the Williamsport area.

Her mother tried to save her, but she too was carried away over a damn before being rescued.

Several agencies along the river, as far down as Harrisburg, have been participating in the search and recovery for the girl's body.
