Weather Alert: heavy rain with possible flooding

(WBRE/WYOU) — Flood Watches remain in effect through Saturday morning for a majority of northeast PA.

An area of low pressure will be tracking along the eastern seaboard today, with more rain for northeast and central PA. Periods of rain will be expected, perhaps steady to heavy at times. An additional 0.50-1.00" of rain can be expected, with locally higher amounts in the Poconos.

With an already saturated ground, there will be the potential for flash flooding in spots. In particular, areas of poor drainage, roadways, streams, and creeks have the greatest chance of seeing flooding.

Temperatures will be on the cooler side with highs in the mid-50s. Scattered showers linger overnight with lows in the mid-40s.

While a shower is possible early Saturday as the low-pressure system departs, we expect clouds to give way to a mostly sunny sky by the afternoon. It will be breezy with highs in the upper 60s.

Mother's Day Sunday looks beautiful with high pressure in control. Plenty of sunshine will be in store with highs in the lower 70s.

Monday will be mostly sunny with highs in the upper 70s.

Our next area of low pressure begins to move in Tuesday through Thursday with more clouds and scattered showers.

Perhaps a few thunderstorms are possible on Wednesday and Thursday. Highs Tuesday and Wednesday are in the mid-70s, and near 80 on Thursday.
