SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — One of the most popular gifts to give moms for Mother's Day is keeping one particular industry quite busy. Florists like McCarthy-Remick Flowers in Scranton are buzzing, filling phone and walk-in orders.
Mother's Day is considered the second busiest flower-giving holiday of the year, only surpassed by Valentine's Day.
Customers are looking for single flowers, plants, and bouquets.

If you thought roses were the most popular flower of choice for mom, think again.
The owner says it is actually sunflowers.
"Yeah, I think the sunflowers that I mentioned have really been popular. They just they're so vibrant and so lifelike. I mean, they're just beautiful. And gerbera daisies are another pretty one with great colors," McCarthy-Remick Flowers Owner Bob McCarthy said.
"They actually are so helpful here. They picked out a bunch of really awesome flowers and showed them to me, and I'm just excited to see what they came up with," Scranton customer Eugene Szezorak told 28/22 News.
The owner expects Mother's Day will be a busy day for business, too.
McCarthy-Remick Flowers will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Scranton.
