Students showcase robots in first ever Robo Rally in Wilkes-Barre

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Local students are showing off their high-tech skills at the first-ever Robo Rally in Luzerne County. It's all about highlighting robotics and STEM education.

Multiple schools came together at the Wilkes-Barre Area High School for the event.

Teams from the high schools, Dallas, Tunkhannock, and Honesdale, all showcased their student-built robots.

While it may look like they're gathering for a battle of the best bots. Organizers say it wasn't a competition.

"We want to get more teams started in the area, so that was really the goal for today's showcase was to spread awareness of the different programs to hopefully get teams started," said Wolfpack Robotics Team Head Coach Carl Budrecki.

"STEM, in my opinion, is the future, the future meaning that there's new medications being made, there's new devices being made that could help people in the future significantly," 14-year-old Participant Inaaya Qaiser told 28/22 News.

The event also featured hands-on activities, basket raffles, and donations collected for local animal rescues.

The robotics program at wilkes-barre is an after-school program available for kids in grades seven through 12.
