WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Wilkes-Barre City Police Department is celebrating new faces on the force. Mayor George Brown and Police Chief Joseph Coffay swore in three new police officers Wednesday afternoon at City Hall.
New officers Jonathan Mason, John Owens, and Paul Sromovski were joined by their families for the ceremony.

"It's encouraging that you know the mayor has committed to making sure that we have enough officers on the streets of Wilkes Barre, and this is just part of it, so this hiring and we're hoping to hire in another couple weeks, we're hoping to hire more," Chief Coffay stated.
The new officers have to go through a three-month FTO program, where they are accompanied by a trainer officer while on the road.
