MOOSIC, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Geisinger is celebrating the resilience of trauma survivors and helping them heal long after they leave the hospital. Dozens gathered on Saturday for Geisinger's Annual Trauma Survivors Day at PNC Field in Moosic.
Survivors shared stories of recovery while connecting with care providers who saved their lives.
Organizers say the event is important because they can only do so much in the hospital to help survivors.

"The real healing comes after the trauma event, even though it ends in the hospital, it doesn't end for our patients at that time, it goes on for their lives," Geisinger Wyoming Valley Trauma Medical Director Richard Lopez told 28/22 News.
"I think it's a good thing to try to open up and talk with friends/family, it's helping me. I'm just grateful and so thankful," Trauma Survivor from Harveys Lake, Lisa Lowery, said.
After sharing stories, survivors and guests were treated to a buffet and a Scranton-Wilkes-Barre RailRiders game.
