SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Runners and walkers hit the pavement in Lackawanna County on Saturday to help local heroes.
The race, Heroes of All Kinds 5K Run and Walk, stepped off in downtown Scranton Saturday morning.
'helping heroes nepa' hosted the event to raise money for veterans and first responders facing financial stress such as medical bills.
Roughly 150 registered participants raced through city streets, with trophies awarded to top finishers in several categories.

"I wanted to try to do the race and try to win and see all the veterans that were here, and my grandpa's here, he was a veteran in the army," Scranton nine-year-old Kilian Burke said.
"My boyfriend's a veteran, and I have a lot of family members who are veterans who passed away, and I wanted to support them," Naomi Sadowitz from Scranton told 28/22 News.
