SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The sound of an effort could be heard to help keep food on the table for struggling families and individuals in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Roughly 100 runners and walkers hit the pavement on Sunday in Scranton for the Second Annual Bread Basket Bolt. It's the biggest fundraiser for Bread Basket of NEPA.
The non-profit provides food to tens of thousands of people through seven Lackawanna County food pantry locations.
Organizers say the community's need keeps rising.

"We did 30,000 individuals last year, and the need keeps growing, so there is no shortage of need in Lackawanna County," Bread Basket of NEPA Board of Directors Vice President Mike Cummings stated.
"I mean, I love doing 5K, of course, for the competitive running aspect, but also awesome to support a good cause and, yeah, and hopefully this isn't our last," Lake Ariel Runner Marcie Blaskiewicz told 28/22 News.
Sunday's fundraising run is so important for Bread Basket of NEPA to continue its mission, which saw a more than 40% increase in clients served.
