Making a buzz in Hunlock Creek at Honeybee Festival

HUNLOCK CREEK, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — All kinds of ceremonies and celebrations are happening this holiday weekend, including one that is dedicated to one of Mother Nature's most crucial insects.

Folks turned out to the Garden Drive-In on Saturday for a Honeybee Festival.

They checked out vendors' booths that featured all kinds of items, including honey, crafts, and clothing.

Attendees also learned about the importance of honeybees, primarily as pollinators of major food crops and many plant species.

"I just figured I'd come out and see what kind of crafts and vendors are out here and see what it's about," event attendee Vern Treat said.

"We're here with a lot of bee items for the bee festival, so. It's really nice. We're doing well. Everybody likes the bees. A lot of people are decorating their homes now with bees," Vendor Patti Fayash-Gunton told 28/22 News.

The Honeybee Festival coincides with this month's celebration of World Bee Day, which was May 20.
