Scranton 5K race honors cancer wellness advocate

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Feet hit the trail for a cause that hits close to home. The Scranton Jewish Community Center's (JCC) 13th Annual Theresa Borgia Memorial 5K drew dozens to the Olive Street Pavilion along the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail.

All running in honor of a woman who left behind a powerful legacy.

The day featured a timed run and walk, with participants of all ages showing up to promote wellness and support the cancer recovery effort.

Show of patriotism marks Memorial Day weekend in Wyoming

"Theresa was a long-time member of the JCC, who fought a courageous battle, but she really helped us build the program that we run at the JCC, the cancer wellness and chronic disease program that we run. It's her legacy that she left behind to the JCC," JCC CEO and runner Dan Cardonick said.

"My best friend Christopher Borgia's mother passed away a few years back from breast cancer, and you know, every time you can show out here for a good cause, it's an honor and I'm happy to be here," Dunmore resident Frank Adamo told 28/22 News.

The event in Scranton raised more than $2,000 to keep wellness programs at the JCC affordable for cancer survivors.
