'StrangeFest' turns Scranton theater into macabre marketplace

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Strange, unusual, and undeniably popular: StrangeFest took over Scranton's historic Ritz Theater on Sunday, transforming it into a marketplace of the macabre.

More than a thousand people came out for oddities like taxidermy, vintage collectibles, and handmade jewelry from more than 45 vendors.

Besides shopping, guests got to enjoy tarot readings, themed refreshments, and explore booths filled with curiosities that catered to fans of all things weird.

"I saw a lot of really cool taxidermy art today, lots of bone jewelry, these kinds of things, very unique, one of a kind pieces, it's hard not to go broke here. It took us about a little under two hours to get here, but excited to be a part of it, and the theater is awesome what a cool space, they got old movies playing, great music all day, having a great time," New Jersey resident Adam Ramirez said.

StrangeFest is co-presented by The Strange & Unusual, a one-stop shop for all things unique in Kingston.

If you missed Sunday's event, organizers say they will be back again next year and try to make it even better.
