SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A first-of-its-kind event was held at Washburn Cemetery in Scranton. A new non-profit organization called Christmas Miracles from Heaven expanded their outreach this year to create miracles for the local community and frontline heroes.
Since the non-profit's start last year, crews have continued to clean up at the Washburn Street Cemetery.

It was during that time that families with loved ones buried there asked the organization to bring back Memorial Day ceremonies, so they did.
"My father was a veteran in the Korean War, and I lost my dad on January 18 of this year, so I knew that I needed to do something, not only for my dad's memory but for the rest of the veterans as well," founder of Christmas Miracles from Heavan Amy Cusick said.
This year's inaugural event honored veterans with a 21-gun salute and the playing of taps.
