5 killed in PA crashes over Memorial Day weekend, slight decrease from 2024

(WKBN) -- Pennsylvania State Police saw a decrease in the total number of crashes during this Memorial Day weekend.

According to a news release, PSP reported 756 total crashes that resulted in 140 injuries and five fatalities. Driving under the influence was a factor in 57 crashes, two of which were fatal.

In 2024, there were a total of 849 crashes, injuring 164 and killing six.

PSP Troopers also arrested 519 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and issued 27,139 citations, including:

7,033 for speeding

977 for failing to wear a seat belt

166 for not securing children in safety seats.

Last year, there were 456 DUI arrests and a total of 27,483 citations.

These reports only include incidents investigated by PSP from May 23 to May 26 and do not include ones where other law enforcement agencies responded.
