PITTSTON TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local tradition continues in Luzerne County. The Annual Fireman's Picnic kicked off on Wednesday with rides, food, and live music.
The five-day carnival is put on by the Pittston Township Fire Department, and it is a big part of how they keep the lights on.
There was something for everyone there, from thrill rides to a beer tent and classic carnival snacks.

"Everyone who's like my age who, like, I'm friends with, I love seeing familiar faces out here at sundown. It gets really fun," Wilkes-Barre resident Tahji Swinney stated.
"It helps the fire department, and we get to actually spend time with our residents and people. When they're usually seeing us, it's on a bad day, so this is something that we can actually do, that you know it'd be on a good day for them," Pittston Township Fire Company President Jordan Consagra told 28/22 News.
The event runs through Sunday with a parade set for Saturday.
