LENOX TOWNSHIP, SUSQUEHANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A wedding cancellation turned into a community celebration in Susquehanna County Friday afternoon.
28/22 News reporter Amelia Sack stopped by the event.
After one woman's wedding was called off, she decided to put a positive spin on the situation and host a different kind of celebration.
"It is a beautiful day. Everybody thought it was gonna rain and then what do you know? So it makes it even more special," expressed Scranton resident Elizabeth Altier.
Elizabeth Altier from Scranton says her wedding got called off more than a year ago, but she still had her venue reservation at Creekside Grove.
New law could legalize fortune telling in PA.
Her booking was nonrefundable, so she decided to use the space to host a spring fling vendor and craft fair.
"Well, why not? I'm so far away from home so I don't have a lot of family around here so I'm like ah I'll just do something for the public," explained Altier.
The california native decided to bring together the community with live music and food.
She also decided to give back, by organizing a basket raffle as a part of the day's festivities with proceeds going to Griffin Pond Animal Shelter.
"I'm a dog and animal lover so I like to support in any way I can," said Altier.
While its not the get together she originally planned, friends of elizabeth say the day was still just as special.
"It's not everyday that you find a wedding that doesn't happen so they turn it into something better. Nine times out of 10 they're gonna just cancel it and you know forget about it but Elizabeth isn't like that. She is more about giving back to people and I thought that was pretty great, you know," expressed Jennifer Smith, vendor.
The celebration wrapped up around 4:00 p.m. Friday afternoon.
