BLAKELY, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Cars were not all that were on the streets in part of a Lackawanna County community on Sunday. Runners took off from the Blakely Borough complex and onto the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail for the Inaugural Build-N-Athlete Race.
Participants had the choice of a 5K or 10K course, while children could do a Fun Run.
The run benefits Build-N-Athlete, a non-profit that works toward removing financial barriers that may prevent children from participating in sports.

"The kids that we help are so grateful. We keep everyone anonymous, but you know that's kind of what me and my wife get to see when we deliver the equipment. You see the kids so excited to receive something that you can tell they're grateful for it," Build-N-Athlete Co-Founder Jon Casey told 28/22 News.
"It was a great race. It was well-organized, definitely. They had people on the course, which was nice, guiding you, and they had plenty of water," Dickson City Runner Nicole Giacometti said.
Build-N-Athlete marked its first anniversary in May.
Organizers say so far they have managed to provide free sports equipment to about a hundred kids in the mid-valley community.
