Woman shot by police while allegedly attacking civilian

WILKES-BARRE CITY, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Luzerne County District Attorney released that there was an officer-involved shooting in Wilkes-Barre City.

According to police, they responded to a naked woman wielding two knives who then later attacked a civilian on North Main Street around 1:00 a.m.

Police say Satin King, a 45-year-old female, attempted to strike the civilian with one of the knives, then police shot King multiple times.

A doorbell camera captured the intense drama just after 1:00 a.m. Monday morning, in the video, you can see the headlights from a police cruiser.

Officers ordered King to drop the two knives. You can also see a man who happens upon the scene run away from the area, then a vehicle pulls up. King stands in front of the vehicle.

The man in the vehicle suffers a stab wound.

"During the course of her attack. She had a knife and was actually able to stab him through the hand with a knife. His were defensive wounds, trying to stop himself from being injured," explained Luzerne County District Attorney Sam Sanguedolce.

The drama continues as police used tasers to subdue King.

King was taken into custody and taken to Geisinger Wyoming Valley, where police say she assaulted a member of the medical team who was treating her.

Maria lives on North Main Street and heard the commotion.

"I see that it was a lady like on the floor in the street, and that's when I realized something was happening outside by house," said Maria, a neighbor.

King remains hospitalized tonight. The man in the vehicle who was stabbed suffered non-life-threatening injuries. 28/22 News was told he was not hospitalized.

The Wilkes-Barre police officer who fired the shots is on paid administrative leave as per department policy. The district attorney's office is investigating the shooting.

The Luzerne County District Attorney says King was taken to the hospital for treatment and has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault. One count for the attack on the civilian and the other for an attack on hospital personnel when she was transported for treatment.

The officer-involved shooting is under investigation by state police. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the state police at 570-821-4110.
