Heroes wear running shoes in Superhero Buddy Run 5K

DALLAS, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — It's been said not all superheroes wear capes, but some wore running shoes on Saturday in Luzerne County's Back Mountain to help kids. They circled the track at Dallas High School for the Inaugural Superhero Buddy Run 5K and Family Walk.

The threat of rain did not stop more than a hundred people from showing up to support the cause.

The non-profit Beyond Grateful, which provides inclusive programs for kids with disabilities, sponsored the event.

"We chose the superhero theme because we work with children with special needs and we feel like everyone in the community with special needs is a superhero," Beyond Grateful Board Member and Race Director Briget Rischawy said.

"It's awesome. You feel like a superhero when you can help these kids and the kids are really superheroes to us as well," Shavertown 5K Runner Jen Biscotto told 28/22 News.

Funds will go toward supporting services provided by Beyond Grateful, including more group programs, parent education programs, and summer camp.
