Vietnam War seaman brought back home to NEPA

SHENANDOAH, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— A local Navy seaman from the Vietnam War was finally brought home to Shenandoah.

Third Class Petty Officer Ronald Yuhas was serving in Da Nang during the Vietnam War.

He was delivering munitions in 1969 when his vessel was attacked and destroyed by North Vietnamese.

Because his remains were not identified, his parents consented to the Navy burying his remains in the U.S. Naval Cemetery in Guam.

But when he was alive Ronald Yuhas asked his brother-in-law, to be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Patrick followed through years later when they found more evidence identified his remains.

"It's very emotional, but we're so so happy to have him back home and being buried at Arlington, which is what he wanted to do," said Yuhas's sister Marlene McGrath.

Thursday was the funeral before he is to be buried in his final resting place in Arlington on June 23.
