Coalcracker culture on display in Foster Township

FOSTER TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — In Foster Township, the Eckley Miners' Village is showcasing vibrant coal-cracker culture, celebrating 35 years of Patchtown Days.

More than 20 vendors filled the historic coal town on Sunday with music, re-enactments, and traditional crafts on display.

One of this year's highlights is a broom-making workshop where handmade heritage took center stage.

"A place like this, people appreciate what you're doing, you know it's not the price tag that goes with it, they appreciate the craftsmanship of what we produce," Broom Vendor Bret Meckley told 28/22 News.

"They've got good vendors here, good selection of food, and it's nice to experience a little bit of the past and see how folks lived, you know, in the days of the Patchtown," event attendee Jon Mezlo said.

Organizers say the rain kept crowds a bit smaller than last year, but the spirit of coal country was still alive and well.
