28/22 News volunteers at Weinberg Food Bank

JENKINS TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— An annual tradition of 28/22 News giving back to the community is alive and well again this year.

Dozens of workers "in front of the camera" and "behind the scenes" are packing boxes of food for those in need.

It is part of our parent company Nexstar's annual Founder's Day of Caring.

Staff members formed an assembly line at CEO Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank to fill boxes with non-perishable food.

The packed boxes will then be distributed to food pantries throughout Luzerne, Lackawanna, Wyoming and Susquehanna counties.

"They're seeing a lot of families that have not had to visit a food pantry before or mobile food distribution before so the numbers are definitely heightened," said Jennifer Warabak, Executive Director, CEO Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank.

"So, we've got a lot of people with that home field advantage who get to work together side by side doing something good for the community is one of my favorite things," expressed Rachel Malak, co-host, PA Live!.

Nexstar's Founder's Day is happening all across the country at our parent company's 200 television stations.

Staff members will resume volunteering Friday at CEO Weinberg Northeast Regional Food Bank.
