Woman rescued from house fire dies at hospital

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A woman who was rescued from a house fire Tuesday has died at the hospital.

According to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel Buglio, 52-year-old Rebecca Kowalski died Thursday, June 26, around 4:40 a.m. at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest.

Coroner Buglio states the cause of Kowalski's death was due to complications of thermal burns and smoke inhalation after a house fire in Kingston occurred on Tuesday, June 24.

According to the Kingston Forty Fort Fire Department, the call came in before 7:00 a.m. for a report of a fire with entrapment in the area of 50 1/2 Payne Avenue.

The department says Kowalski, who was in a second-floor rear apartment and called in the fire, was found and rescued from the building.

The coroner's office, along with the Kingston Police Department, is continuing to investigate.
