Wyoming Valley Mall projected to reopen July 2

WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) —  The Wyoming Valley Mall is closed Friday for a 3rd consecutive day due to a power outage.

According to the mall’s Facebook page, the mall was closed on Wednesday for a power outage and has yet to reopen as of Friday, June 27, but repairs to the electric lines are predicted to be done by Wednesday July 2.

The mall states, "The electricians have confirmed that the underground lines that transmit power from the Shopping Center’s central station to the mall have been damaged beyond repair and will need to be replaced. The reason for this force majeure is still being determined, but the professionals are not ruling out a possible lightning strike as the cause."

The Ashley Home Store across from the Wyoming Valley Mall is also without power and encourages customers to visit other locations. A list can be seen on their Facebook page.

The mall states that there are only a few companies in the area that are qualified to work on such a project, and they have been on-site for the last two days.

The new cables and equipment are expected to arrive on July 1, and if everything goes as planned, power will be restored on Wednesday July 2.
