Celebrating 2 community members at Kingston ribbon cutting

KINGSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A special ribbon cutting in Kingston on Saturday was all about celebrating two special community members.

Hoyt Library dedicated two new spaces, the Geraldine Ruddy Hourigan Courtyard and the Jim Haggerty Little Free Library.

The community gathered outside to tour the venue, take photos, and honor the legacy of two people who loved the library.

Ruddy's family helped design the courtyard after her passing in 2019, while former mayor Jim Haggerty donated the Little Free Library before his death last year.

"The connection between them that they both loved literacy, and they both loved the community, so it was great to honor both of them at this simultaneous event," Hoyt Library Executive Director Melissa Werner said.

The courtyard will host community events while the Little Free Library stays open 24/7 with books, DVDs, and audiobooks for anyone to enjoy.
