KLINE TOWNSHIP, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) released details on a tractor-trailer crash that closed part of Route 309 and left thousands of pounds of cheese to be cleaned up on the highway.
According to state police, crews were called to a report of a tractor-trailer down an embankment just after 9:00 a.m. on Route 309.
Troopers say their investigation determined that a 31-year-old man from Nevada was driving a tractor-trailer South on Route 309 down the mountain along with a 41-year-old passenger from California.
For unknown reasons, state police say the tractor-trailer crossed over the raised center divider and entered the Northbound lane.

The tractor-trailer struck and drove through the guardrail and rolled onto the driver's side, stopping about 100 feet down an embankment, PSP explained.
Both the driver and the passenger had minor injuries and were able to get out of the tractor-trailer on their own.
Following the crash, Route 309 is closed in both directions between Ben Titus Road and Exit 138: I-81 Hazleton/Harrisburg, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).
State police explained that the roadway is closed as the wreckage and about 30,000 pounds of cheese are removed from the scene.
PennDOT says the roadway is expected to be reopened by 11:30 p.m.
