Runners tackle Montage Mountain slopes in Black Diamond Mainline 5K

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Roughly 300 runners tackled a course at a location best known for skiing. They headed to the slopes of Montage Mountain on Sunday to take part in the Black Diamond Mainline 5K.

Montage Mountain and Scranton Running Company teamed up for the event.

Organizers say this 5K is known to test runners' grit, determination, and endurance.

"The route's good. It's tough. They know what they're doing here. You get a nice downhill and you think you're good and then you start going up and heart rate skyrockets and you just start dying," Spring Brook Township Runner Matt Pelucacci said.

"During the summertime when I'm trying to build up my endurance just constantly preparing for these hill workouts, you definitely get put to the test here at Montage Mountain," Grace Bennett, a runner from Clarks Summit, told 28/22 News.

A second Black Diamond Race will be an 8K at Montage Mountain. It will be held on the last Sunday of July.
