Administrator's resignation leads to lock changes in Wilkes-Barre Township

Editor's Note: This article has been updated to reflect Revitt's position as the former business administrator for Wilkes-Barre Township.

WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Locks were changed on a local municipal township building after the business administrator resigned, and now officials with Wilkes-Barre Township say there's an internal investigation.

The former business administrator for Wilkes-Barre Township is out after handing in his resignation.

The reason is still in question, but an investigation is underway that may lead to answers.

Two locksmiths were hard at work at the Wilkes-Barre Township Municipal Building Monday afternoon, changing the locks on both interior and exterior doors of the building.

Township Solicitor John Rodgers says the lock change is because of business administrator's resignation.

"I could tell you it's township policy that when any employee resigns their employment, like any other prudent business person, we would obviously change locks and other things just to make sure they don't have access," Rogders stated.

Monday's township work session went on without interruption, but just five minutes into the meeting, council moved to a closed-door executive session to address personnel matters.

According to Rodgers, in this session, council members were informed of Michael Revitt's resignation, the former business administrator for the township.

"It's still, it's an ongoing investigation right now. And they just did the prudent thing, which is to protect the township, protect the township's interests, and as they blaze on further, we'll have more information," Rodgers added.

Rodgers would not comment further on the resignation, but says an investigation is being conducted internally.

"Mayor, and the police department have handled everything totally proper and they're taking every precaution to protect the township's assetts and to protect the township- and even though at this point we don't even know if there's an issue they did everything prudently to make sure that if there is one that it was taken care of properly and that it was addressed immediately," Rodgers continued.

No reason was given for Revitt's resignation.

Rodgers says this is an ongoing investigation and could not confirm any wrongdoing.
