SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A Scranton teen who faced a life-threatening cancer diagnosis had her dream come true, thanks to Make-A-Wish.
At just 16 years old, Gemma Bistran has been through more than most her age. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with lymphoma, a life-threatening form of cancer.
"They found out that it was primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma, which is a rare and aggressive form. I had it for 16 weeks before that, it just traveled extremely rapidly," Gemma explained.
School, swim practice, cross country: It all had to be put on hold while she underwent intensive chemotherapy, but there was one thing that never changed: her love for Chicago PD.
"I started in seventh grade a few months before I got sick, so I liked it like a while before that, and I've watched it ever since then," Gemma added.
So when Make-A-Wish asked Gemma what her one dream was, she didn't hesitate.

"I wished to meet the cast of Chicago PD," Gemma stated.
She wanted to meet the cast of her favorite show, and that's exactly what she did.
In November, Gemma flew to Chicago to visit the Chicago PD Set. She was greeted by her favorite actress, Marina Squerciati, who brought her to wardrobe, let her pick an outfit for an upcoming episode, and even got her dressed up in her own uniform.
"She was my favorite character since I started watching the show, and honestly, that was like my main thing that I wanted was to meet her and it was just amazing," Gemma added.
The cast and crew surrounded her with kindness, even snapping a picture with some of the stars from Chicago Fire.
The trip gave Gemma more than just memories; it gave her a sense of joy, strength, and hope for what comes next.
"I just really want to give back to everyone that helped me. I just hope that no other kid has to go through what I went through," Gemma said.
