SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — An annual event in our area is coming back, combining the love of yoga and supporting local musicians.
There's silence in the air as instructor Lillian guides a group of yogis from Jaya's Yoga Studio through a class on the Electric City garage roof at the Marketplace at Steamtown in Scranton.
Following each step, everyone who practices yoga has their own reason.
"The ability to get present and ground myself so that when life is a little chaotic and challenging, yoga is always present in my life," says Lisa Rigau.
But this group is just warming up the site ahead of the 12th annual 'Yoga on the Roof' event at 9 a.m. on the Fourth of July.
"All levels, all shapes, all sizes, and it's just a really beautiful thing to be able to see people come together and have a shared experience," says owner Hilary Steinberg.
"It's really a good way to start your fourth, especially because the fourth can be really stressful so I just think it's the best thing you can do," says Lauren Walters.
Benefiting not just your mind, body, and soul but also local artists. All the money raised goes toward the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic.
"One of our major commitments is to education, and so we're supplementing what the schools do. With many schools, there are no music programs," says Carol Nelson Dembert.
Friday's event will have live musicians.
"It's emblematic of the incredible connections between arts and health and wellness," says Chason Goldschmitz.
Addison Shelley says there's only one way to get better.
"Practice!"
The 9 a.m. event on Friday in Scranton still has openings.
