SNAP-ed program hopes to bring agriculture to classroom

ZION GROVE, SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The SNAP-ed program is hoping to help bring agriculture back into the classroom. The program provides the opportunity for farmers to educate kids and teachers about the importance of agriculture and what they do day-to-day.

This also helps the farm by associating a face with the food kids are eating.

Davis Grown, a farm in Schuylkill County, is supplying four schools with 500 pounds of locally sourced ground beef.

"Crystal Hampton-Davis part-owner of Davis Grown - Funding helps out so much with these students as far as opening their eyes to what agriculture actually is, and where their food is coming from, where you know where all of this lies and allowing it to come back to the farmer and they see the farmer and making those connections," part-owner of Davis Grown, Crystal Hampton Davis, told 28/22 News.

This federally funded program provides nutrition education to low-income families.
