Wyoming Valley Mall remains closed after a week long power outage issue

WILKES-BARRE TWP., LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Wyoming Valley Mall has been closed for a week and will remain closed for the next two days.

The mall was set to open on Wednesday after a power outage shut down operations. According to the mall’s Facebook page, it will remain closed on July 2 and 3 due to "extensive electrical repairs."

The mall states, “The electricians have confirmed that the underground lines that transmit power from the Shopping Center’s central station to the mall have been damaged beyond repair and will need to be replaced. The reason for this force majeure is still being determined, but the professionals are not ruling out a possible lightning strike as the cause.”

The new cables and equipment were expected to arrive on July 1. Mall officials did not say when they hope to reopen.
