LYCOMING AND SULLIVAN COUNTIES (WBRE/WYOU) — People in Lycoming and Sullivan counties are cleaning up tonight, after severe storms slammed the area Sunday and Monday.
Communities in both Lycoming and Sullivan counties are still cleaning up after Sunday night's rainstorms that brought seven inches of rain to the area.
The flooding washed out several roads in Glen Mawr, Lycoming County, forcing drivers to take detours through rural back roads.
The scene was the same in Davidson Township, Sullivan County, with waterlogged roads and mud.
Construction continues on sink hole that opened up Monday
"I've been seeing a lot of mudslides. A lot of houses taken out. It was like water was up to people's like porches a lot, and we were trying to get through because 42 was shut down, so like 42 and 239. So, we had to go all these little back ways and all the little valleys like they were severely impacted. My boyfriend is up on a hill, so we weren't going to be directly impacted, but in terms of being able to get to work and stuff, he was stuck on both sides of Edkin Hill Road. They were shut down, so he wasn't able to get to work yesterday," said resident Keara Drummer.
The flooding is causing damage to several homes and taking a toll on farmland.
Just a few days ago, what used to be a field filled with crops is now a pool of water.
Businesses were not spared from the rising waters either.
"The Country Friends Cafe, his mom owns that. So, that was severely flooded in the basement all yesterday, and I think a little today. I think they're just getting it cleared out," said Drummer.
