Protestors and supporters show up for VP Vance's visit

WEST PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— With the vice president's visit to NEPA, came groups of supporters and protestors.

28/22's Joe Mason spoke to people on both sides.

Some people came out to support, others to protest.

I had the opportunity to speak with people on both sides.

The supporters we spoke with seem more united than ever around Vice President Vance and President Trump.

How traffic and locals were impacted during Vance’s visit

"I believe they were sent by God. I'm serious, to preserve Abraham Lincoln's promise that a government of the people, by the people, and for the people will not perish from the earth," expressed Edward Young, Trump/Vance supporter, New Jersey.

"I love them, they believe in god and they believe in us and they care for us, and they want the best for America," stated Linda Bonczkiewicz.

"I'm a die hard, J.D., Donald J. Trump fanatic," added Ivor Richards, Republican 119th District Committee Member.

They say the law addresses many of their concerns.

"We have people who are taking advantage of the system who have never worked at all. If you're healthy, you work, that's the way I feel and Trump's gonna make that happen," voiced Richards.

"I'm gonna be getting social security next year, I get a lot of overtime with my job too, no tax on that, that's great. But more than that, I mean the big beautiful bill will enable the wall to be finished" said young.

"The first thing is the border. The border, people want to come in hear legally, that's fine, but if you're illegal: bye, bye," added Bonczkiewicz.

But, not everybody's happy about it.

"We're here to tell J.D. Vance that he's not welcome here. We're here to tell the entire administration that they're not welcome here. Their agenda's not welcome here. It's just a big ugly abomination," voiced Jesse Bender, protestor.

Protestors say they're entirely against it.

"It cuts billions and billions, almost a trillion dollars of Medicaid. People will lose their health care, people will lose their lives, and all for billionaires to get a bigger and bigger tax break, line their pockets, line the pockets of buddies," stated bender.

"We want our Medicare protected, we want immigrants protected, we want people who've been working their whole live to be able to retire. There are so many things that they're hiding in these bills that they're getting pushed out one after the other that we don't have tome to look at and fight about," added alexia Kelly, protestor.

"Well a lot of the things that get passed and trump supports, they kind of lie about what's in it. You know, a lot of the Medicaid cuts honestly that's the biggest thing for me," said John Palumbo.
