PLEASANT MOUNT, WAYNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A festival happening this weekend in Wayne County is aimed at promoting the education and future of agriculture in our region.
Tens of thousands of fresh wild blueberries can be found in this field at the Equestrian House in Pleasant Mount.
Owner Roger Aguinaldo says when purchasing the former horse farm nearly 10 years ago, they didn’t know it was there until a landscaper pointed it out.
"Over a thousand wild blueberry bushes that we saw here, and we really wanted to have it accessible and open it up to the community, open it up to the public," said Roger Aguinaldo.
When looking for what to do with this superfood, they thought to pair it with another, honey.
Its apiary on the property has around two million bees.
"It’s natural and it doesn’t have preservatives and it’s not manufactured in, you know, a factory, while it’s just made here and extracted here," said honey salesperson Cecelia Aguinaldo.

Getting the sweet honey product, however, is a labor of love.
Combining the two natural snacks, they are ready for their fourth annual honey and blueberry festival.
"Pun intended, this was an organic festival, if you will, right?!" said Roger Aguinaldo.
Vendors set up and guests get the chance to learn about farming in Pennsylvania.
"Back in the day, maybe in the 1950/60s, it was all family farms, hundreds of thousands of them, and now there are less than a few thousand family farms. This being one of them," explained Roger Aguinaldo.
In addition to educational tours, you can also pick unlimited blueberries.
There are no pesticides used in the wild blueberry bushes, so all you have to do is pick and eat it fresh! If we don’t get to it, the wildlife will take care of it.
The festival runs this weekend and next.
The festival in Pleasant Mount runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday this weekend and the following weekend.
