No swimming at Ricketts Glen due to bacteria levels

FAIRMOUNT TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The swimming area at Ricketts Glen State Park has been closed due to high bacteria levels in the water.

According to the park's Facebook page, water samples taken during a routine test on Thursday showed dangerously high levels of bacteria in the water. They announced that the swimming area would be closed until they received results showing acceptable levels.

The park said they expect the swimming area to be closed for the weekend and expect to reopen around the date of Wednesday, July 23.

The picnic area, sandy beach and boat rental areas at the park will remain open.
