BLOOMSBURG, COLUMBIA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— We have an update to a story we've been following about a marching band from Columbia County embarking on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The Bloomsburg High School marching band has been collecting money to perform in the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Hawaii. They were the only group from Pennsylvania asked to take part in the national event.
Now just four months away, countless hours of practice and attending community events has put them nearly halfway to their $200,000 goal and the students say they're so thankful.
Tradition keeps everyone coming back to one local bazaar
"It really just shows how much our hard work over the last few years has paid off and just the chance to represent ourselves. I also know this means a lot to the veterans in our community like it's just a really big opportunity for us," explained Morgan Dana, junior/flutist, Bloomsburg High School marching band.
"It's really nice to see us getting recognized and like being supported by everybody in our community," added Josilyn Savidge, junior/flutist, Bloomsburg High School marching band.
All the money raised will go toward flying out sixty students, including their instruments, in December.
The next fundraiser is a tropical dinner and live music event this Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Bloomsburg.
