Police say man tried to pull gun on officers

DUNMORE, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say a man is in custody after he attempted to pull a gun on officers after threatening to kill a woman.

On July 20, around midnight, officers responded to a 911 call in which multiple people could be heard screaming before the line disconnected.

According to the criminal complaint, officers saw a black SUV pulling out of the driveway when arriving on the scene in Dunmore. They conducted a traffic stop and pulled over 35-year-old Jose Eduardo Perez-Moya in Scranton.

Police say they noticed a handgun tucked under his leg, and Perez-Moya began to reach for the weapon after officers instructed him not to. The officers then removed Perez-Moya from the car and placed him in handcuffs.

The affidavit states officers made contact with the victim, who claimed that Perez-Moya had shown up to her friend's house, put a gun to her head, and threatened to kill her before fleeing the scene.

Upon further investigation, officers found Perez-Moya's handgun was not loaded. They also found a single magazine between the seat and console of the vehicle.

Perez-Moya now faces charges of aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and simple assault. His bail is $200,000.
