Welding prehistoric predators at Weld-A-Saurus Camp

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Dinosaurs, dinosaurs and more dinosaurs! Seventh and eighth graders were welding some of these prehistoric predators at the Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County on Thursday as part of the Weld-A-Saurus camp.

The Career Technology Center has been hosting camps like these for eight years. It teaches middle school-aged kids how to weld and introduces them to trade careers with professional equipment.

Rockin’ The River concert series will go on

"I love to see the smile on these kids' faces and giving back. That's what I always love to do is give back to the community. I graduated from CTC in 2022. We've been doing this for the past seven years. It's something different, you know, not everyone knows how to weld. It's just the smile on their face, get to do something new and they come out with a dinosaur. When you take their picture, they're super happy at the end of the day when they get to weld it," said volunteer Ariyana Linko. There is a welding class for adults scheduled for the first week of August. These programs are so popular, the class was full at the end of the first day for signups. The class now has a waiting list for people to get in.
