Chicken Wing Fling underway in Swoyersville

SWOYERSVILLE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A weekend-long festival in Luzerne County is serving up thousands of chicken wings with a side of community. The Annual Swoyersville Chicken Wing Fling is getting close to wrapping up for day one.

Organizers say the festival continues to grow, now with a dozen wing vendors, estimating to sell around 40,000 wings to hungry guests.

The event is in its third year, raising money to update and make local parks more inclusive for families.

Attendees get to try all different types of chicken wings and flavors and vote for their favorite.

"I'm excited to eat all the wings I can. I'm starving. Great food, great people. Yup, it's an awesome event, it's jam-packed," Tyler Yzefski from Missouri told 28/22 News.

"About 15 different flavors. We like to do our special setup where we smoke the wings and then we fry them after, so you get a little smokey flavor and then nice and crispy," Business Partner of Purple Peppers Farmstand and BBQ, Anthony Lehnert, said.

The Chicken Wing Fling has a goal of $10,000. It runs until 7:00 p.m. Saturday and will pick back up for day two Sunday at 11:00 a.m. at Roosevelt Field in Swoyersville.
