Honoring fallen co-worker with memorial garden

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Scranton community came together on Saturday to remember a friend and co-worker killed in a tragic accident earlier this year.

Dozens gathered at Schiff's Marketplace to celebrate the life of Tony Mazzie.

Mazzie was hit by a car near the store on February 26 and died two days later.

Co-workers raised several hundred dollars to create a memorial garden with a plaque in his honor, just steps from where he worked for more than 20 years, and united each and every department.

"Tony always had a smile on his face, he kept things interesting, he got along with everybody. I mean not just his department, but all of the departments. He kind of kept everybody together," Schiff's Store Manager Dave Popper explained.

"To do this for him and keep his memory alive day in day out, is overwhelming to us we love the love and support they have given us," Tony's Brother, Frank Mazzie, said.

The memorial site will remain at Schiff's to serve as a place for employees and customers to remember Tony Mazzie.
