Monroe County announces property reassessment project

MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A heads up for Monroe County residents: Monroe County officials announced on Monday they will be launching a county-wide property assessment.

In a release, Monroe County officials announced they have partnered with Tyler Technologies to perform a county-wide property assessment.

The initiative comes after the county's last reassessment carried out in 2020, the release explained.

Authorities say the years-long project comprises of assessment of property values, data collection, verification, and chances for property owners to appeal their new assessments.

The reassessment is scheduled to wrap up by 2028, officials added.

During the effort, the release says Monroe County Assessment staff will be performing in-person data collection throughout Monroe County and will be easily identifiable by their Monroe County-issued official ID badges and polo shirts.

Assessors would knock on doors to identify themselves if anyone is home and describe the reason for their visit, county officials explained.

Authorities warned residents that if someone claims to be a field assessor and attempts to enter a home, residents are urged to reach out to local law enforcement immediately.

Suspicious activity can also be reported to the Monroe County Assessment Office.

Field work for the assessments will only happen from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and when an adult is available, assessors may ask some questions about the property, including the listed items:

Number of bedrooms and bathrooms

Type of heating and cooling systems

Year the home was built

Construction materials and physical condition

Finishing level of attics and basements

Additionally, officials say assessors would take pictures of the exterior of any structures on the property to support accurate property valuation and identification.

Residents can learn more about the reassessment project by contacting the Monroe County Assessment Office at (570) 517-3133.

Property owners should expect to get data mailer postcards with QR codes starting around November 1, which will give instructions for residents to review and update their property's data online.
