New cat cafe helps pets find fur-ever homes

STROUDSBURG, MONROE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Coffee, cappuccinos, and cats? All three things you can find at a new cafe in Monroe County.

28/22 News stopped by the shop and has more on how they're helping four-legged friends find their forever home.

Getting your fix for caffeine and playing with cats, both are on the menu at the new Cozy Kitty Cafe in Stroudsburg.

Owner Amanda Counterman says she had the vision of opening a shop like this one on McConnell Street back in February, and now it’s finally come to life.

“I just decided, ‘how do I open something true to my heart with a passion, with the experience I have coming out of the corporate world for so long, but then trying to chase my passion?’”

The cafe operates like any other, offering sweet, tall treats and pastries. But this one has a small entry fee that goes towards caring for its 24 available cats.

$1M won off $20 lottery scratch-off ticket in Pa.

“Some people can’t adopt kittens. Whether it’s someone in their household who is deathly allergic or some people just want to hang out with cats, so they come and get some stress relief by hanging out with the kittens and playing,” said volunteer Lauren Nadrowski.

Since opening its doors last month, 20 cats have already been adopted. Allowing other cats, like Peek-a-boo, to find their forever home.

The adoptable kitties range in size and age, including the 4-week-old Firecracker and the 6-year-old Mama Bear.

“It’s really hard to just fall in love with one!” said Nadrowski.

Volunteers like Lauren, Pyper, and Molly help the cats get ready for their second chance at life, many overcoming tough obstacles.

“We have actually a three-legged cat who had been shot by a BB gun in her leg, so she had to get her leg removed,” said volunteer Molly Steiner.

But despite their background, they play on. Looking for the perfect family to scoop them up and welcome them home.

All the cats at the Cozy Kitty Cafe are from other shelters or found as strays in the community. If you’d like to stop by the shop in Stroudsburg, it’s open Tuesday through Sunday. To learn more, visit the Cozy Kitty Cafe.
