Man sentenced for killing 26-year-old during armed robbery

SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A man has been sentenced after he was found guilty of killing a 26-year-old during an armed robbery.

65-year-old Shelton Miles was sentenced to life without parole for shooting and killing Jose Tatis Camilo.

Investigators reported that in March 2024, Camilo was shot in the back of the head during an armed robbery that Miles committed inside a Sunoco in Scranton.

Miles also shot a female cashier in the upper thigh before stealing nearly $1,000 in cash and fleeing.

Despite pleading insanity, a jury in May found Miles guilty of first-degree murder, attempted murder, robbery, theft, and two counts of aggravated assault.
